J/30 North Americans Warm-Up Open Regatta
1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 April 2005 J/30 Class Rules will apply to J/30’s. Other boats must conform to the current rules of their respective Class Association
1.3 J/30 Class Rule 5.14.1 (Sailing Weight), requiring hull draft marks is waived; sailing weight may be determined by measurement.
1.4 The J/30 Class Rule 6.7 (Crew Limit) is modified by adding "In addition to meeting the crew limit, boats must sail with the same number of crew in each race. Only crew substitutions declared by name and sailing date at registration will be permitted, except in case of illness, accident or other special circumstance."
2 ADVERTISING
The regatta is classified as a Category A event in accordance with RRS/US Appendix G.
3 ELIGIBILITY
The regatta is open to all J/30s conforming to J/30 Class Rules and any other boat that wishes to race level with J/30. No handicapping will be performed
4 LOANER BOATS
Not Available for this race.
5 ENTRIES
Entries will be accepted until one hour before the start of the first race.
6 REGISTRATION
Each boat owner or owner's representative must complete registration at NOYC. There is no entry fee for this event.
7 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

9 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be standard NOYC sailing instructions as posted at noyc.org.
10 VENUE
10.1 Regatta Headquarters will be located at the New Orleans Yacht Club. Notices to competitors will be posted on the Official Regatta Notice Board located at NOYC.
11 COURSE
The racing area will be located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Chart available at http://noyc.org/images/chart.pdf. Courses will be windward/leeward or as near to windward/leeward as the race committee can achieve with the available boats and crew. The race committee will use gates and offset marks to the degree that it can. There will be no whining by the competitors. (Note: scratch that last part, it should read: “Course is not subject to protest”)
12 PENALTY SYSTEM
A boat that may have broken a rule of Part 2 while racing may take a penalty by making Two Turns in compliance with RRS 44.2 or by taking a 20% Scoring Penalty in compliance with RRS 44.3.
13 SCORING
13.1 Three races are scheduled. A minimum of one race shall constitute a series.
13.2 The Low-Point scoring system of Appendix A will apply, except that a boats total score will be the sum of her scores for all races; no score will be excluded. This changes RRS A2.
14 SUPPORT BOATS
Support and spectator boats are welcome to come out and help.
15 BERTHING
Visiting boats shall be kept in their assigned places in the New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor.
16 HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS
Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the jury.
17 RADIO COMMUNICATION
17.1 A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones and wireless laptops.
17.2 The following is permitted:
(a) unsecured verbal communications from race committees on standard VHF radio channel 68;
(b) receipt of VHF radio weather channels and safety related weather alerts; or
(c) signals used to determine a boat's location.
(d) monitoring VHF radio channel 16 and making contact with commercial traffic on VHF radio channel 13 as required for safety.
18 PRIZES
18.1 Individual race and series prizes will be awarded depending on the number of entries. Quality and/or desirability of the prizes is not subject to protest.
18.2 Additional prizes will be awarded to any J/30 sailed solely by a husband/wife team for each S2 beaten in any race.
19 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to during, or after the regatta.
