I understand that the work to control the levee breach at 17th st has been stopped, and from what I understand it is because the sandbags have been washing away as fast as they drop them. I was wondering if they could drop some of the concrete road surfaces from the twin span that have shifted of thier bases into the gap. My thinking is that since the road surfaces are already there, and could probably just be lifted from where they are, it might be a lot faster process than waiting to specially build a plug for the levee.
By providing a base heavy enought to withstand the rushing water, it might allow the sandbags to actually stay in place. I don't know if the helicopters that are there can lift them, but once the Military heavy lift copters show up, they might be able to do it.
