Subject: [j22list] PHRF Loan a Boat Program

At the last Sailing Activities Committee meeting, the idea came up of loaning one-design boats to displaced PHRF sailors. The J/22 is probably the best fit of all our classes given it’s origin as a small offshore keelboat. The plan would be to have a separate J/22 one-design class start on the same days that PHRF races are run, and letting PHRF sailors use our J/22’s to go out and race. It would be up to each owner to decide whether he wanted to place a representative on the loaned out boat, or just let the PHRF sailors take it on their own. The races we are talking about would be the regular SYC PHRF Spring Series races and the Leukemia Cup to the extent it would not conflict with the one-design start.

The obvious benefit here is that we might pick up some new J/22 boat owners out of the deal as they will get used to sailing the boats and hopefully will want to make the switch over to competing in our regular J/22 one-design races.

Several 22 owners will make their boats available.
