Lake Pontchartrain Multihull Championship

A new regatta for multihulls will take place at Pontchartrain Yacht Club April 14-15. The regatta is open to the following multihull classes:

A-Class catamarans (singlehanded, uni-rig)
F-18 catamarans (doublehanded sloop, spinnaker)
F-16 catamarans (doublehanded sloop, spinnaker)
I-20 (Nacra 20) catamarans (doublehanded sloop, spinnaker)
All Corsair triamarans
Open Portsmouth for any boat with a DPN of 70 or less (Hobie 20, Prindle 19, F-18HT, and others)
Three boats make a one design fleet for this event.

Seven races are scheduled over the weekend of racing with festivites for the sailors both Friday and Saturday night.

You can find the NOR at www.pontyc.org.

The intent is to make this regatta a permanent spring regatta at PYC with the hope to attract multihull sailors from FL, MS, AR, AL, and TX to a central venue with excellent sailing conditions. It is also hoped that this event will spark a revival of interest in multihull sailing on Lake Pontchartrain.

It seems strange that multihull sailing is so weak on Lake Pontchartrain when the silver medalist in Tornados from the 2004 Olympic Games calls New Orleans and Southern Yacht Club home.

Watch out, the "dark side" will be playing in April at PYC! Come check it out.
