Re: Class breaks

The current plan is to use the old PHRF. I've contacted Clubspot about developing a more robust scoring feature which will allow the use of the new ORA-1 ratings and eventually ORR (with PCS). As of right now, the NOR states that this is a PHRF regatta, and I won't have the time to rebalance classes and amend the NOR between now and the series beginning.
On the topic of rebalancing Nonspin, and after discussions amongst officers and experienced racers, we've come to a decision to rebalance based on weight for this series. Boats with a design displacement above a certain number will be Nonspin B, and boats at that number or below will be Nonspin A. The most logical choice for the weight class is 4,000 lbs, since that's the NOYC hoist capacity. This would shift ADD, Blitz, Girl, Evil Intentions into the A class. Conversely, the J/100 Out Flow (who sailed in the spring but not the summer) would move to Nonspin B. It will require that I look boats up on sailboatdata.com to reassign classes as needed. If anyone wants to weigh in on using weight as a class break instead of rating, or another metric, I'm prepared for the feedback. Also, if we agree that weight is a reasonable quantitative method for assignments, do we agree with the 4,000 lb class break?
Aaaaaand....fire away.
