Kett and others have worked hard and have fixed over 90% of your gripes with ORRez by using what is called PCS scoring. Nothing can be simpler than one number handicapping but its a lot simpler than the original rollout of ORRez. Maybe he can elaborate after you find time to do your elaborating.

Also, if you live and actually handicap race anywhere on the Gulf Coast, as FRM says you should have seen Tom Beery's ORA1 which is very close to the same as PHRF but gives each boat 4 different ratings for spin and 4 more for non spin based upon wind speed and course type. All that really needs to happen to make you real happy is for the RC to post which rating they are going to use when they post the course. Compared to PHRF, this will be substantially more accurate and fair for all boats with hardly any extra effort or brainpower required.
