You should lighten up CF. I think CSA learned a lot from the experience this past weekend. We’re bummed we DNF’d but when the breeze pretty much shut down after we rounded Delta for the second time, we decided to call it a day. The previous upwind leg (from J to Delta) was tedious. The breeze was oscillating at least 40 degrees and velocity was only in the range of 2-4 knots .

I was actually pleasantly surprised we had the breeze we saw based on the forecast models. Up to the second J to Delta leg, we were really enjoying the sailing. I would be in agreement with others that if the forecast is for less than 5 knots, just go with a 10 mile course. That’s probably a 3-4 hour race for most of the fleet as long as the breeze does not completely shut down. Since the race committee is comprised of volunteers, I believe it is more than reasonable for them to remain on station until 4pm with the 9am start.

September is also not the optimum time for racing on the lake. It’s pretty light (and sweltering) most of the time and you are at the peak of storm season. I think this race could be more enjoyable if it is scheduled between mid-October to mid-November. I love the steeplechase format. I would love to see 3-4 of these type races during the year.

Thanks CSA!
