I watched the interview with the owners and feel for them.

It just perplexes me that on any offshore sailboat whether cruiser or racer that the rudder area is not separated from the rest of the boat by a watertight bulkhead or some type sealed but accessible crash box. We’ve seen boats lost due to rudder failures from Orca’s, sunfish, containers, etc. Losing your rudder should not be able to sink your boat.
