A friendly reminder, due to high levels of security at ports, it is HIGHLY recommended to have all required USCG items aboard. While leaving the harbor this morning to return home, Zephyr was boarded by the USCG. The wonderful news, we passed the inspection. They reviewed all details including whistles / horns.

Here is a list of required items. Let me know if I missed anything.

USCG-approved lifejacket (Type I, II, III or V) for each person aboard, including specifically fitted PFDs for children.
Kids 12 and younger must wear a PFD on a moving vessel.
Mooring lines and fenders in good condition.
Tool kit and spare parts.
Bilge free of fuel vapors and excess water.
Fuel supply full.
Fuel system free of leaks.
Engine oil and transmission fluid levels correct.
Battery fully charged, fluid level full.
Electronic gear in good condition.
Navigation lights working.
Steering and shift mechanisms in good condition.
Grab rails, lifelines in good condition.
Personal and ship's papers. USCG Documentation (not expired)
Throwable flotation aid.
Fire extinguishers.
Visual distress signals.
Horn or whistles
Anchor, chain, rode and anchor line (fully assembled)
Compass properly adjusted.
Charts for the area.
Navigation tools.
Very vessel 26' or larger must display oil and garbage placards.
VHF Radio: Recommended for communication and emergency calls.
